Egli's Sheep Farm - Polar Mitts

Egli's Sheep Farm - Polar MittsI rely on Egli's sheep farm for my winter mitts—and trust me, in Manitoba you need warm mitts! Their Polar Mitts, made from sheep skin, are my go-to mitt for our harsh winter. I often get compliments on these mitts; I think it is because people envy my warm hands!  Mine are beginning to wear at the index finger after five years of steady wear.  Definitely a mitt that is worth the investment.
I also have my eye's set on the Child's Ice Trooper--to keep Baby's head warm this winter.

About: Egli sheep farm is tucked away in western Ontario, and manufactures their products directly on their farm. They also have an animal park.

Favourite Memory: A number of years ago on route to Kenora, ON, we visited Egli's, and saw their on-site  manufacturing, farm, and did some shopping. Prior to that I had always ordered my items online, and now I finally got to see their inventory of incredible products.  I told my husband not to rush me, as I wanted to take my time browsing. I made my purchases, and we journeyed on.  It was a very hot July day, and my husband loves air-condition; I do not. So that trip, it worked out wonderfully. I wore my Egli wool gear on my hands, feet, and head and stayed comfortably warm that trip!  I also got some amusing looks from other people that passed us. I smiled back in marital bliss, with a sheepish grin.

Those mitts sound amazing! :)

The basic gloves that come from your standard store at under 5 dollars a pair can't handle even mild Canadian winters. So gloves like these are my favourite since I want to retain feeling in my fingers. No matter how mild or hard the cold is.

Padraig Cottage Slippers:

As I type this, baby is marching around the house in his padraig slippers.  We received his first pair as a baby gift, and ever since then we've purchased subsequent sizes. They are so comfortable, warm for our Canadian winters, and simply adorable. Now I'm dreaming about an adult pair for this mama. . .did you know they make adult sizes?

About: Helen, the founder, made her first pair of slippers for her young son in the winter of 1977; they had a hand cut sheepskin sole and a crocheted upper made with hand spun raw wool. . .in a few years they would become known as the Original Padraig Slipper. Since Helen started selling her wears at local craft markets, the slipper line and the company have grown and evolved.

Cream Stripe

Though their company has expanded, employing more than thirty local artisans and support staff, they are still independently owned and operated and their premises remain in North Vancouver, ensuring product quality and support of the local community.

Favourite Memory: At my baby's first baby shower. I had him wrapped up in a shawl, and he was wearing this tiny cream "baby sack" that had a bit of a draw-string at the bottom. . .and when people unraveled his blanket, to behold the little bundle, out peeked these newborn cream padraig slippers. It melted hearts.  I will never forget that memory.

Love padraigs!

La Canadienne Montreal – Boots

La Canadienne Montreal - Boots
Well, every woman has her favourite boots, and mine are made by La Canadienne. Some years I haved saved up my Christmas money to purchase a pair of their boots.

My favourite pair is the cherry patent leather wedge boot. And I wear this pair of boots so much! Their boots are exceptionally designed with old-world insight but a modern-day sensibility. I appreciate the genuine leather materials that are waterproof – a must for our cold, wet Canadian climate.

About: Handcrafted in Canada with the highest European standards, the footwear from La Canadienne is another example of the quality products manufactured in Canada.

La Canadienne began forty-five years ago in Montreal, the heart of Canada’s fashion capital. Their goal was to create comfortable, versatile boots that would offer unbeatable protection against the cold, wet Canadian climate.

Favourite Memory: A few years back, after trying to rid myself of the shackles of what what people think, I decided to wear my trusty red boots over some jeans as a testament to some new-found freedom {I don't think they were quite the right kind of jeans--so it looked a littly quirky}. I remember the cold winter evening, walking around a mall, and my shopping partners hinting at my amusing appearance. I grinned and enjoyed my evening immensely. Now when I wear my red boots they remind me to live freely {grin}

It is hard to find a boot which is both sexy and comfortable - love the cherry!

Mother-Ease Sandy's Diaper

We've tried all kinds of cloth diapers (see why we cloth diaper here). When my baby was a newborn, I searched for the diaper of diapers that would do justice to those long night-time duties.  My criteria? 1) organic natural fibre; 2) Canadian-made;  3) explosion-proof; and 4) a really thirsty diaper! And I found it.  Mother-Ease's Sandy's Diapers are extravagant night diapers. . .the size (20-35 lbs) absorbs an impresive 15 oz!  The diaper is neatly surgered with an comfortable elastic around the legs to hold in all contents.  We use these diapers exclusively for night.Large Sandy's™ Diapers

About:Mother-ease Cloth diapers was founded in 1991 by Erika Froese, a stay-at home mother of five cloth-diapered children. Frustrated with her traditional cloth diapers she was determined to design something convenient, reliable and leak free. Once her designs were complete and fully tested she set out to manufacture and sell the most innovative range of cloth diapers in the world.

Based in Ontario, Mother-ease designs are based on the needs of mom and baby which Erika knows all too well. Their unique combination of innovative designs and custom made fabrics make their diapers different really work!

Favourite Memory: Two memories come to mind: Firstly, because of the little whale character on the diaper, we call them "Jonah" diapers. On wash days, before bedtime, if you were in our home, you would hear my husband or I calling, can you get me a Jonah diaper from the laundry line? It makes me laugh just thinking about it.  My second favourite memory is watching our baby waddle around before bed-time with his huge "night-time-bum". . .inserts, diaper, and wool diaper cover stretch those sleepers to the max in that critical area. . .oh, the things that makes parents laugh.

These are my favourite product this month! I am about to have my first baby and these are absolutely perfect!

Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods – Hemp Hearts

Hemp hearts are part of my daily diet. I enjoy these seeds that have a gourmet nutty flavour on my cereal, salads, and baking. I even make my own hemp milk from the hemp hearts. Hemp is full of protein and packed with nManitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils - Hemp Heartsutrients. This truly is one of one Manitoba's great exports.

About: Founded in 1998 and grown through grass-roots marketing,  Manitoba Harvest Hemp  strives to manufacture the highest quality hemp food products, to educate on the nutritional & environmental benefits of hemp, and to support sustainability in all that they do.

Favourite Memory: Discovering Manitoba Harvest Hemp seeds this last summer at a local grocery store on a trip to Nashville, TN. I looked twice, to ensure my eyes did not betray me.  It's so rare to find Canadian products in the USA; not to mention products from your own province. I wanted to shout, I'm from Manitoba and get other shoppers to purchase them.  I didn't, but in hind's sight, I wish I did!

Love the hemp hearts!! I'm from Manitoba too. Gifted a bag to our inlaws in Nova Scotia about a year ago and now we have to bring some out to them each time we visit.
